Los Angeles Lakers
Recently, the Los Angeles Lakers were named as a potential landing spot for Fred VanVleet in the event that they miss out on a bigger move and are interested in moving on from D’Angelo Russell. However, the possibility of the Lakers landing VanVleet would largely hinge on a potential sign-and-trade agreement between Russell and the Raptors.
While that may seem like a far-fetched idea, perhaps it’s something that could end up materializing the deeper we get into free agency and perhaps could be a better possibility if the Lakers were willing to include a lightly protected future first-round pick.
VanVleet on the Lakers makes a ton of sense. From a schematic point of view, he would seem like a great offensive fit next to LeBron James and Anthony Davis. He could help take some of the ball-handling pressure off of LeBron and take some of the scoring pressure off both LeBron and AD.
The big concerns would rely on the defensive end of the floor. VanVleet is an undersized guard and because of that, the Lakers could run into some of the same defensive issues that they battled with D’Angelo Russell as their starter.
