NBA Draft Rumor: San Antonio Spurs eyeing a trade for a second lottery pick

The San Antonio Spurs won the lottery of all lotteries when they were awarded the No. 1 pick in the 2023 NBA Draft. The reward will be Victor Wembanyama, who might possibly be the best NBA Draft prospect in history. He’s 100 percent could to change the trajectory of this franchise as soon as he steps into the building. But drafting Wembanyama may not be the only plan that the Spurs have at this year’s NBA Draft.

According to a recent report, there are rumblings that the Spurs could trade up to snag an additional lottery pick to select a point guard. The Spurs really want to get greedy. But to get a second lottery pick, it could end up being costly for the Spurs. The big question is whether there’s a point guard that falls into the late lottery that the Spurs are willing to float a future first-round pick (which would likely be the cost) for.

While I do believe that the Spurs do have the assets to trade back into the lottery, I don’t believe this is the draft to do it in. If I was a member of the Spurs’ front office, I’d lean toward signing a veteran point guard than giving up what it will take to get back in the lottery.
