Unrealistic – The Chicago Bulls trade Zach LaVine
The Chicago Bulls are in a pretty unfair position heading into the offseason. The Lonzo Ball injury has absolutely nuked this team’s core. Without any clarification on that, other than the fact that he likely won’t be back this season, the Bulls are forced to either try to build around DeMar DeRozan and Zach LaVine with limited flexibility or bite the bullet and pivot toward a rebuild. Either way, the path forward won’t be easy.
That’s why it shouldn’t be surprising that the Bulls reportedly have quietly gauged the trade market for LaVine. If they got to a point where they have to rebuild, it would be wise of them to already know what the potential return would be. That said, I don’t think the Bulls are at that point yet. They’re not going to trade LaVine at the NBA Draft.
If they do end up trading LaVine, I’d have to imagine that it would come next offseason. DeRozan is on the books for one more season and I’d have to imagine that they’ll roll the dice and try to be competitive for one more year and see how that ends up working out for them before they completely hit the reset button.
Maybe I’m wrong, but I’d be utterly shocked.
