5. Detroit Pistons – Cam Whitmore, F, Villanova

There have been whispers that the Detroit Pistons could end up trading down from this position, but there is one prospect that makes too much sense for me to feel like they would end up moving off this pick. Cam Whitmore seems like the perfect fit for what the Pistons are building. They have (hopefully) the backcourt of the future with Jaden Ivey and Cade Cunningham. They also have a few strong young bigs in their developmental system with Jalen Duren, Marvin Bagley, and James Wiseman.

What the Pistons don’t have at the moment is a wing that they could feel strong about heading into the future. Their current stopgap at the position, Bojan Bogdanovic, is a player they could end up moving later this offseason. Because of that, I believe that the move for Cam Whitmore would only make more sense.

Whitmore is one of the more overlooked prospects in the top 5, but he does have a limitless potential that surrounds his raw skill set. He’s a great athlete and has shown the ability to be a solid 3-point shooter at times.

You question his overall offensive ability on a consistent basis but the talent is there. He’s probably too good for the Pistons to pass up at No. 5.
