Cam Whitmore, Houston Rockets
During the 2023 NBA Draft, Cam Whitmore emerged as a surprising faller. He was expected, by many, to be selected in the top 10. And some draft experts even had him projected to be selected in the top 5. However, as the draft night began, there were whispers that he was a candidate to fall. And that’s what exactly happened. It wasn’t until the Rockets traded back up into the first round up to No. 20 that Whitmore was finally taken.
All questions bout Whitmore were quickly silenced with his performance in the NBA Summer League. En route to winning NBA Summer League MVP, Whitmore averaged 20 points and six rebounds on 47 percent shooting from the field. On top of his consistent production, Whitmore also flashed his impressive athleticism and defensive abilities on a night-to-night basis.
Depending on how he continues to develop in the Rockets system, there’s a strong chance that Whitmore could end up being the biggest steal of this draft. He has the potential to be a really good player down the line.
