Javon Freeman-Liberty, Chicago Bulls
Far from a guarantee for the Chicago Bulls, Javon Freeman-Liberty surprisingly was one of the better players in the NBA Summer League. JFL was named to the All-Second Summer League team, paving the way for the possibility that he could earn a contract and a spot on the roster for the Bulls or even another team.
In five Summer League games, Freeman-Liberty averaged 21.2 points, 4.6 rebounds, 4.4 assists, and 1.0 blocks per game while shooting 49 percent from the field and a scorching 46 percent shooting from three-point range.
Freeman-Liberty clearly deserves a shot in the NBA. It will likely come with the Bulls, whom he impressed with. However, that’s far from a certainty considering the logjam that Chicago has in the backcourt at the moment. If the Bulls aren’t willing to give JFL a shot to earn a roster spot, you’d have to imagine that there will be another team willing to give him that opportunity.
JFL didn’t just have one of the better names in the summer league, but he was clearly one of the better players. At 23 years old, his shot in the NBA could be on the horizon.
