NBA Power Rankings: Where all 30 teams stand after the draft, free agency
16. Oklahoma City Thunder
Key offseason move: A healthy Chet Holmgren
The Oklahoma City Thunder have to be considered one of the most intriguing teams in the Western Conference. They nearly qualified for the playoffs last season (losing in the NBA Play-In Tournament) and were maybe one contributor away from doing so. The good news for the Thunder is that while they didn’t make any huge offseason additions, they will welcome back the return of Chet Holmgren. He missed his entire rookie season with a Lisfranc injury.
And if his performance in the NBA Summer League is any indication of what to expect in the regular season, he should probably be considered the favorite to win the NBA’s Rookie of the Year award heading into the season. While the NBA Summer League is not always a good indicator of the regular season if Holmgren is even a fraction of the player he’s been, the Thunder are going to be improved.
Where the Thunder ranks in the West is difficult to predict right now but this is a team that will be in the playoff picture from the opening tip.
