Key offseason move: Drafted Brandon Miller, re-signed Miles Bridges
With the No. 2 overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft, the Charlotte Hornets had the opportunity to begin to reshape or continue shaping their franchise. The Hornets elected to select Brandon Miller (over Scoot Henderson) with the pick. They believed Miller would be a better fit next to LaMelo Ball and thought he would be the better player over Henderson in the long run. Maybe they’re right but it’s no surprise there’s some hesitance to walk with the Hornets when it came to this decision.
Nevertheless, the Hornets have talent. There’s no denying that. The question is whether this front office can continue surrounding them with a capable supporting cast and whether this coaching staff can develop the young core. One of the most polarizing moves of the offseason that the Hornets made was re-signing Miles Bridges.
From a basketball standpoint, it’s easy to understand why bringing back Bridges was done. However, there are some serious off-the-court risks that the Hornets are taking with this move.
Will it all work out? Who knows.
