Worst moves the Brooklyn Nets made during the 2023 offseason

Even though the Nets have had a pretty solid start to the 2023 NBA offseason, there were a few moves that they decided against that I can’t help but question. One move could still happen at some point during the season, but one of their other decisions is something they can only now look back at.

Not trading Royce O’Neale

With the emergence of Mika Bridges and Cameron Johnson, and to some extent after the signing of Lonnie Walker, Royce O’Neale’s role with the team is very much in question. He’s a player that the Nets could’ve easily moved at the NBA Draft or even in free agency. They elected not to and his trade value is only going to decrease as an expiring contract.

I didn’t really understand the idea behind keeping him on the roster.

Not trading up in the first round of the 2023 NBA Draft

The Nets’ decision to not use their two first-round picks to trade up even a few spots is something that they may end up regretting. There were a few players that fell into the late teens that would’ve been great picks for Brooklyn.

One of the bigger missed opportunities was Cam Whitmore. He looks like the steal of the first round and was selected one pick before the Nets. That’s something they could end up regretting for quite some time.
