Best moves the Detroit Pistons made this offseason

As the Detroit Pistons look to make a jump up the Eastern Conference standings this season, it’s hard not to look back at a few of their offseason moves and not be encouraged by them. And it all started with what looks like could end up being an excellent selection in the 2023 NBA Draft.

Drafting Ausar Thompson

With the No. 5 overall pick, the Pistons selected Ausar Thompson. He showed some real positive signs during his stint in the NBA Summer League and the hope is that he can continue to build off that. How big of a role will he be able to play for the Pistons this season? Who knows. However, if he can reach his potential as a prospect, he has the chance to be a really good player for a really long time.

And he’d fit right into what the Pistons have been building over the last few years.

Trading for Joe Harris

An underrated move for the Pistons this offseason included trading for Joe Harris. Entering the final year of his contract, taking a flier on Harris could end up paying dividends for the Pistons. He’s proven over the course of his career to be a good 3-point shooter and could certainly play a role for the Pistons this season.

It’s a good low-risk, medium-reward type of move.
