San Antonio Spurs
Earlier during the offseason, the San Antonio Spurs were considered a potential landing spot for Tyler Herro. For many of the reasons that have been stated for some of the other teams on this list, Herro fits the Spurs’ new rebuilding timeline. Even though the Spurs have used some of the available cap space that Herro’s contract would’ve likely fit into, it wouldn’t take much for San Antonio to find a way to make room for him.
To a certain extent, the idea of a Herro-Victor Wembanyama offensive duo could be intriguing. Especially with Spurs’ head coach Gregg Popovich leading the way. Plus, you can’t help but wonder how much Herro could continue to grow under the tutelage of Pop. The big question is whether the Spurs are ready to make that level of splash.
And I’m not so sure. Even though many are putting some big expectations on Wemby, I think it’s only fair to allow him to grow and develop slowly. Knowing the Spurs’ organization and how they operate, you can imagine that they’ll do exactly that. They’re not going to force anything for Wemby and are going to protect him a bit, at least early on.
Does that mean they shouldn’t pursue Herro? I’m not so sure.
