Joel Embiid’s trade value may be at an all-time high
If the Philadelphia 76ers are willing to be honest with themselves, there’s one thing that they can admit – there’s a very good chance that Joel Embiid’s trade value is at an all-time high. Considering his injury history, there’s an argument to make that, considering where the Sixers stand as a franchise, it would be in the best interest of the team to trade Embiid coming off his MVP performance last season.
It may not be the ideal move but considering James Harden kind of blew up the entire offseason and plan moving forward, trading Embiid (with the package that it would return) would help the Sixers not only replenish their asset cabinet but also help jump-start a rebuild that may be inevitable at this point.
Do the Sixers want to trade Embiid? Absolutely not. However, at this point, it might be in the best interest of the team to get ahead of a possibility that may be on the horizon. At 30 years old, there’s a non-zero chance that Embiid is at the peak of his powers.
If the Sixers are honest with themselves, they’ll realize that trading Embiid at this point may be more beneficial for the franchise in the long run than trying to force a retooling that is unlikely to result in a championship.
