Worst offseason moves made by the Miami Heat
While it’s probably unfair to judge the Miami Heat on their offseason moves thus far, considering we don’t know how the Damian Lillard saga will end, there was one move that didn’t make a ton of sense and leaves the Heat in a bad spot if they aren’t able to complete the deal for Dame. It’s losing Gabe Vincent in free agency.
Letting Gabe Vincent walk in free agency
If the Heat aren’t able to land Lillard, they don’t have a starting-caliber point guard on the roster. No disrespect to Kyle Lowry but at this point in his career, he’s not a starting point guard. And if the Heat are entering the season with Lowry as the starter and no other seasoned player behind him, it’s going to be a long year for Miami. And not in a good way.
Again, maybe the Heat does close the deal for Lillard. And maybe Lillard becomes the starter and the decision to let Vincent walk becomes moot. That could very much end up happening. However, for now. that decision looks like a bad one. It’s the level of decision that could end up hurting the Heat in a big way come playoff time.
