Breakout candidate: Josh Green

Heading into the start of the season for the Dallas Mavericks, all eyes are going to be squarely fixated on Kyrie Irving Luka Doncic, and newcomers Grant Williams and Dereck Lively III, and deservedly so. However, if the Mavs are going to make a big move up the Western Conference standings this season, that’s going to require the emergence of a non-traditional player on their roster. One clear breakout candidate on the team that fits the bill is Josh Green.

Through his first three seasons in the NBA, Green has improved each year. This past season, Green averaged nine points on 40 percent shooting from 3-point range. There’s a chance that he could take another step forward this season and could quite possibly embrace a role as the team’s third-best player behind Luka and Kyrie. If he can, Dallas should be in a good position to be a surprise team in the West.

If Green can emerge as a consistent third or fourth option, it would be a pleasant unexpected surprise for a team that is somewhat of an afterthought when discussing contenders out West.
