Heading into the start of the season, I highly encourage Philadelphia 76ers fans to take full advantage of this season. Because I predict a complete retooling of the roster could very well be on the horizon. I predict that this will be Joel Embiid’s final season playing for the Sixers. And if the speculation around the league is accurate, there are also many other front-office executives who could be preparing for this reality.

The Sixers are likely going to trade James Harden for pennies on the dollar at some point this season. Without making another move for a star, which seems unlikely, the Sixers will find themselves at a crossroads after this season. For as good as they can still be with Embiid at the center, they aren’t going to be championship contenders without a supporting star like Harden on the team.

At that point, the Sixers would have to have a serious conversation with Embiid to discuss both their futures. That’s when I believe Embiid will push for a trade. Quite. frankly, if the Sixers do take a big step back this season, trading Embiid might be the best path forward for both sides.
