Karl-Anthony Towns, Minnesota Timberwolves
While there have been some recent rumors that the Minnesota Timberwolves could be inching toward trading Karl-Anthony Towns, I suspect this is something that I have to see to believe. Towns is in his prime and still just 27 years old. He’s gotten off to a slow start to the season but there’s hope that the best basketball of his career may very well still be in front of him. What he may need, however, is a fresh start. As for as bright as the Wolves’ future may be with Anthony Edwards, there’s no guarantee that KAT will be a huge part of that.
It actually may be in the best interest of both the Wolves and KAT to explore a change of scenery. But because of KAT’s contract (he has three guaranteed years of at least $52 million per season and a player option in 2027-28 for $65 million), it could make a deal increasingly improbable.
However, all it takes is for one team to be all-in on the idea of believing in KAT. I’d have to believe that there’s still a team out there that is extremely high on this potential reclamation project. If the Wolves continue to operate in mediocrity in the Western Conference, KAT could absolutely hit the trade block before the deadline.
