Philadelphia 76ers: Trending upward

When it was originally reported that James Harden had demanded a trade away from the Philadelphia 76ers, it was widely believed that the team was going to take a big step back in the Eastern Conference standings. Especially with the moves that the Boston Celtics and Milwaukee Bucks made to further solidify themselves as championship contenders heading into the 2023-24 season.

But then something changed. Even with Harden sitting out to start the season, the Sixers came out red-hot to start the year. Without Harden, Tyrese Maxey and Joel Embiid have played at an extremely high level to make the Sixers not miss a beat. Through the first two weeks of the season, the Sixers are 5-1.

The Sixers are one of two teams in the NBA that have a top 5 offense and defense, they also have the second-best net rating (only behind the Boston Celtics). Considering what the narrative was surrounding this team during the offseason after Harden requested a trade, the Sixers are in a much better place.
