Philadelphia 76ers: 6 Pipe dream trade targets to partner with Joel Embiid
Donovan Mitchell, Cleveland Cavaliers
It may be close to panic mode for the Cleveland Cavaliers when it comes to Donovan Mitchell. If it wasn’t alarming enough when Mitchell elected not to sign a contract extension with the team earlier this offseason, the team’s slow start to the season should expedite that worry. After this season, Mitchell just has one more year remaining on his contract. If Mitchell didn’t sign an extension this past season, I find it hard to believe anything changes between now and when Mitchell can test free agency.
Right now, the Cavs have gotten off to a sluggish start. They’re 3-4 and are struggling mightily on the offensive end of the floor. It still feels like the rest of the Cavs’ supporting cast may be a couple of years behind Mitchell’s development. That means the Cavs may have a bit of a timeline problem on their hands.
If Mitchell recognizes that, it could open the door for his potential exit – which could happen either via trade or free agency. There’s at least an outside chance that there could be a bidding war via trade for Mitchel this offseason.
