James Wiseman, Detroit Pistons

Dating back to the 2020 NBA Draft, James Wiseman has been one of the bigger disappointments from that class. The Golden State Warriors threw the towel in on that experiment at last year’s NBA Trade Deadline and there’s at least an outside chance that the Detroit Pistons elect to do the same this year. Wiseman is in the final year of his rookie contract and the Pistons need to make a decision on his future soon.

With the way they’ve handled his minutes so far this season, perhaps they’ve already made such a decision. Wiseman has only appeared in two games and has played a combined 17 minutes. It would not be that surprising if the Pistons explored his trade market heading into the deadline. At this point, it seems unlikely that Wiseman is going to be back with the Pistons next season.

Maybe this is a gamble that the LA Clippers would be willing to make. Wiseman is still just 22 years old and his trade value isn’t high. I suppose the big question revolves around whether the Clippers would be willing to invest in the time it may likely take to absorb anything out of Wiseman moving forward.
