NBA Rumors: Are the Washington Wizards preparing to flip Jordan Poole at the NBA Trade Deadline?

When the Washington Wizards took the gamble to trade for Jordan Poole during the offseason, many viewed this move as one that could end up working for both sides. For Poole, it made sense considering he likely needed a fresh start after what had transpired with the Golden State Warriors. For the Wizards, it was viewed as a measured roll of the dice for a player with immense talent.

However, this move may not be working out as either side believed – or hoped – that it would.

Veteran NBA reporter believes that the Wizards’ plan for Poole could very much point to the team trading him at some point soon, once his trade value rebounds a bit. And if that is indeed the case, it wouldn’t be all that surprising.

Jordan Poole is a polarizing player with upside

The complicated part of the Poole conversation is the fact that he’s one of the most polarizing players in the league because of his upside. The raw talent is very much apparent for Poole. In a vacuum, Poole should be considered one of the most talented young players in the league. Because he is.

However, when you take everything into context, there are too many factors that suggest he may never reach his ceiling in the league. Through 10 games with the Wizards this season, Poole is averaging 16 points and four assists on 41 percent shooting from the field. Known as a relatively inefficient player, Poole is on pace for the most inefficient season of his career thus far. That’s, not great. Especially considering he’s been given free rein with the Wizards.

All the noise about the Warriors holding him back is now gone. He’s been given a fresh start in Washington and it hasn’t been the best start for him. But at just 24 years old, it would be foolish for him to be given up on.

While he may not be considered a foundational piece for the Wizards, there’s still a chance he can continue to blossom as a player. It’d be unfortunate if we’ve already seen the best of Poole. However, from the sound of things, if he does reach new heights, it’s beginning to appear as if it may not be with the Wizards.
