Lakers trade for Domantas Sabonis
In what could be viewed as the biggest move for the Los Angeles Lakers during the offseason, they could look to a past rival to try and significantly improve their frontcourt. If things continue to spiral out of control in Sacramento, I wouldn't put it past the Lakers to ask the Kings if they'd be open to trading Domantas Sabonis. Of course, that's not if Sabonis doesn't ask for a trade before it comes to that.
Sabonis is considered one of the more polarizing players in the NBA at the moment, but his productivity over the course of his career can't be denied. He's a strongly productive player and could be a huge asset for the Lakers in the frontcourt. He may not be the defensive anchor that perhaps the Lakers are looking for, but what he can do offensively will take a ton of pressure off of Luka Doncic and LeBron James. And that would be considered a win for Los Angeles.
What the trade would look like: Finding a trade that would work for both the Lakers and Kings could be complicated, and such a deal could gut Los Angeles' roster. Nevertheless, for the sake of this exercise, this is what a deal could look like. It would revolve around Rui Hachimura, Gabe Vincent, Jarred Vanderbilt, and Dalton Knecht. The Lakers would also likely have to throw in a first-round pick and potential pick swaps to appease the Kings' asking price. Still, that may not even be enough.
The trade market for Sabonis would likely be strong, and it could outprice the Lakers from making a competitive offer. Nevertheless, if the Lakers were to figure out, perhaps, a multi-team deal to help them land Sabonis, it would certainly change the feel surrounding this team heading into next season.
