NBA MVP Power Rankings: Joel Embiid steady on top; Giannis makes a move up
3. Luka Doncic, Dallas Mavericks
Luka Doncic has been superb so far this season for the Dallas Mavericks. Two games back of the second seed in the conference standings, Luka is a big reason for the team's early-season success so far this season. After missing the playoffs entirely last year, even after the mid-season acquisition of Kyrie Irving, there's a very good chance the Mavs could enter the postseason as a top 4 seed in the Western Conference. And if they do, Luka will be one of the primary reasons why.
Sure, the Mavs' supporting cast has been much better this season compared to the end of last season. But Luka has also been better. Not only is Luka averaging a near career in points (31) but he's also on pace to have the most efficient offensive career of his career, on top of averaging eight points and eight rebounds per contest.
Luka is shooting 49 percent from the field overall and 39 percent shooting from 3-point range. At the moment, Embiid is arguably the most unstoppable offensive force on the wing. And if he continues to play at this high of a level, the Mavs are going to be a potential dark horse to win the West and he's going to find himself right in the thick of the NBA MVP race.
