The Detroit Pistons had a solid group of players last year. Josh Smith, Andre Drummond, Greg Monroe and Brandon Jennings sounds like a very good core. However, they had trouble working together and proved to be inefficient. There was a lot of conflict when they had to work together. It’s easy to say they just weren’t a good fit for each other.
Don’t get me wrong though, they are all great players. For that reason, I see at least one of them leaving Detroit this summer. I see Greg Monroe being the player, if not one of the players, leaving Detroit.
Monroe will most likely be looking for a max contract this summer. The Detroit Pistons may have trouble making that happen, with Drummond and Smith also with big contracts. It is possible for Monroe to ask for a sign-and-trade. If that doesn’t work, then he could even go as far as asking Detroit not to match any of the offers he receives on his offer sheet.
If Detroit refuses to do any of that, things could see some drama surrounding Monroe this offseason. Either way, I don’t see Monroe staying with the Pistons, especially if Josh Smith stays with the team. Look for the Los Angeles Lakers to be interested in Greg Monroe’s services.
