There are a few players in the NBA that are overly beneficial from their all-star caliber teammates. Lance Stephenson was one of them. And for the past few seasons, he’s managed to make his impact on the league because of that.
Stephenson is the prime example of taking advantage of your teammates talent in order to make a career. Again, not a knock on Stephenson.
Stephenson is a heck of a player, and is very talented. He’s just not a guy that is going to lead a team, while making multiple all-star appearances. He’s good, not great.
While his 13.8 points and nearly six rebounds and five assister per game would suggest that his potential was being held back in Indiana, I would argue the opposite. His numbers were ballooned a bit thanks to Paul George and Roy Hibbert.
Defenses often keyed on George and Hibbert, opening great opportunities for Stephenson. He did a great job of taking advantage.
But that won’t be the case in Charlotte. Expect a slight dip in his numbers this season.
