Considering the Brooklyn Nets up and down season last year, Joe Johnson had a pretty solid year. It wasn’t a career-year for the 33-year-old, but it also wasn’t a bad year — again, considering the Nets season.
Johnson averaged 15.8 points per game on 40 percent shooting from three, his best percentage during his time in the NBA from distance since his 2004-05 season with the Phoenix Suns. He was also a big reason why the Nets even made it to the playoffs a year ago.
Though, we could be seeing the beginning of the end for Johnson. In each of his last three seasons, his points per game statistic has dropped. He’s down six points since 2009-10 in that category.
The Nets don’t necessarily need Johnson to be “better” next season, especially with the expected return of health for Deron Williams and Brook Lopez this year, but they do need him to equate his production from last season.
His recent yearly drop-off would indicate otherwise, though.
