They’re players loaded with potential, offering teams the opportunity to find a diamond in the rough, or just plain rough.
Last year’s shining examples were Zach LaVine and Nik Stauskas.
LaVine was a mystery to many scouts, after mainly playing a reserve role in college. He went on to show flashes of star potential with Minnesota, posting averages of 10.1 points and 3.6 assists per game.
Stauskas on the other hand, struggled mightily with the Kings in his first season, after red flags were raised about his lack of athleticism and speed.
The verdict is still out on both players, but right now Minnesota’s gamble has seemed to pay off far more than Sacramento’s.
