NBA: Grading Every Team’s Free Agency Moves
Miami Heat
Notable Additions: Derrick Williams, Willie Reed, Wayne Ellington
Free Agency Grade: D+
Before NBA Free Agency began, Miami Heat president Pat Riley said that this summer would be fun. It was the exact opposite of that. Instead of landing his whale, Kevin Durant, Riley lost the face of his franchise. Dwyane Wade elected to sign with his hometown Bulls as the Heat are now left scrambling.
It’s now the youth movement for Miami, depending on what happens with Chris Bosh and his health. Nevertheless, with high expectations heading into this summer, it’s safe to say that the Heat fell flat on its faces. There’s simply no other way to put it.
With an opportunity to pull off the unthinkable again – in landing the NBA’s most coveted free agent – Riley and the Heat did exactly the complete opposite. In the end, though, after the emotional scars begin to heal, this won’t turn out to be all that bad for the Heat franchise. Losing Wade probably hurts, but it was probably the best outcome for both parties.
