17. Boston Celtics (via Memphis) – Patrick Williams, PF, Florida State

Equipped with multiple first-round picks, there are a number of ways the Boston Celtics can go with the No. 17 pick. One area of need, however, remains along the frontcourt where the Celtics can select Patrick Williams. He might not be a prototypical pick at this spot but has all the tools to develop into a great player.

The measurables are clear – Williams is one of the most athletic bigs in this draft. He’s also an emerging threat on the offensive end. In a limited role, Williams averaged nine points and four rebounds during his freshman season at Florida State, but his upside is tremendous – especially if he can develop a consistent jumper.

Williams is certainly a prospect and project, but because of his impressive athleticism and length, there’s a chance that he’d be able to contribute, in one sense or another, next season. It perhaps will not be in an extended role, but in Brad Stevens’ system, something could be carved out for the extremely talented Williams.
