NBA Mock Draft. 6.0: Kings land LaMelo Ball; Warriors snag James Wiseman
7. New York Knicks – Obi Toppin, F, Dayton
Having just missed on Tyrese Haliburton, the New York Knicks would be kicking themselves should they fall in this position. With that said, adding a player like Obi Toppin wouldn’t be the end of the world for a team that needs as much talent as they can collect. While Toppin is the sexy name that some of the other players selected earlier are, he’s an overall good player.
Toppin is an athletic big that is a great finisher. He also has the potential to be a versatile defender, something that would fit right in with Mitchell Robinson manning the paint. Coming off a season in which he averaged 20 points, eight rebounds, and two assists, Toppin has shown to be an efficient scorer and has even shown the ability to stretch the defense.
Toppin shot 39 percent on 2.6 3-point attempts per game during his second season at Dayton. Again, those aren’t ground-breaking numbers by any means but the fact that he’s at least shown the willingness to stretch the defense is a great sign.
Adding Toppin at No. 7 would be a great steal for New York.
