Do the Detroit Pistons need to land the No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft?

This is where it begins to get interesting. The Detroit Pistons hit the hard reset button officially when they bought out Blake Griffin earlier this season. The Pistons are now a shell of a playoff contender in the Eastern Conference and are in search of a new face of the franchise.

I’m not sure where this team would be right now without the signing of Jerami Grant during the offseason, but it’s safe to say that it wouldn’t be in a pretty or great spot. The Pistons absolutely need to land a top 3 pick in the 2021 NBA Draft and need a transcendental talent.

Their two leading scores on the season are Grant and Josh Jackson. The team has seen some encouraging signs from Saddiq Bey during his rookie season, but I don’t think anyone is counting on him to evolve as the team’s next star.

Detroit would love to find a budding superstar in this draft and will have as good a shot as any other team picking at the top. The concerning news is that the Pistons haven’t exactly had the best luck in the draft. That has to change and change quickly.

The Pistons need to land the No. 1 overall draft pick more than the Rockets and Wolves, and need it to be a hit. Instantly.
