LA Clippers trade candidate No. 2: Goran Dragic

Goran Dragic and the Toronto Raptors are heading for a quick divorce, after playing just five games for his new team after being traded for Kyle Lowry. Dragic was always a questionable fit in Toronto, and is especially so after the emergence of Fred VanVleet, establishing himself as an All-Star.

Goran’s in the last year of his contract, set to make $19.4 million this season. Despite the high number, his expiring contract status makes it easy for a contender to acquire the veteran point guard.

Dragic is experienced in the biggest moments, playing in the NBA Finals just two seasons ago. Excluding this season, he hadn’t averaged under 13 points per game since 2011. He’s a professional point guard, being able to create his own shot while also getting his teammate’s open looks.

For the Clippers, they have multiple expiring contracts to send back to the Raptors in exchange. A potential reunion between the Raptors and Serge Ibaka would be welcomed by both parties, as he played some of the best basketball of his career there under Nick Nurse. Additionally, a 3-and-D wing such as Marcus Morris could be useful alongside blossoming stars OG Anunoby and Scottie Barnes.

The Clippers could supply Toronto with valuable veterans to support their young core, while Goran Dragic would help Los Angeles’ offensive struggles immensely, being able to run an offense effectively even at 35 years of age. He can both shoot and attack the dribble at impressive rates, providing the Clippers’ offense with another element seen in not many of their players.
