NBA Rumors: The Indiana Pacers are expected to be among the many teams this offseason that will pursue Jalen Brunson in free agency.
Heading into the offseason, Jalen Bruson is a name that is expected to be a heavily coveted free agent. And that intrigue is only going to grow after he practically saved the Dallas Mavericks‘ season with a 41-point performance in the team’s Game 2 victory over the Utah Jazz.
According to Marc Stein, after the season he’s had this year, Brunson is expected to be a hot commodity during the offseason. And one team that could be involved in his pursuit is the Indiana Pacers. The New York Knicks, and others, have also been linked to Brunson and are expected to pursue him during the offseason.
This is all to say that Brunson is expected to be highly sought-after. What’s truly interesting about this report is the fact that, technically, the Pacers already have a starting point guard in Malcolm Brogdon.
And while there have been whispers that the Pacers could shop Brogdon during the offseason (he’s officially trade eligible after signing an extension during the season), at least until now that’s all been speculation.
However, this report seems to indicate that it would almost be surprising if the Pacers didn’t trade Brogdon. The fact that the Pacers would pursue Brunson would mean that there are already plans of what the team would do after they would trade Brogdon. Meaning it has to be more than just a thought. It seems to be on the table and something that might be better than a 50 percent chance of happening?
Regardless, it’s interesting to keep an eye on heading into the offseason. The Pacers appear to be on the verge of another retooling this offseason and could be looking for a new point guard. If so, it appears that Jalen Brunson will be atop the team’s wishlist.
