NBA Rumors: In a response to a report from earlier in the week, Kevin Durant says he’s not planning on retiring anytime soon.
As Kevin Durant continues to wait on the Brooklyn Nets to appease his request for a trade, it was only natural for it to begin to take a turn for the messy. But that’s what has begun to happen over the last few days.
It started when Durant reportedly met with Nets ownership and asked them to choose between him and the combination of the general manager and head coach. It then quickly evolved when it was reported that Durant wasn’t above holding out of training camp.
Then got a bit out of control when the word retirement was thrown around.
In a response to a report that suggested that he would be more likely to retire than play for the Nets this season, Durant had a strong response via Twitter:
It seems that Durant had enough. He was tired of the way the narrative was trending and perhaps it had finally gotten out of control. Interestingly enough, while speaking on the manner, really, for the first time, the only thing that Durant “debunked” was the retirement part of the story.
He could’ve quieted the holding out of training camp portion of it or even the fact that he gave the Nets an ultimatum. But he didn’t. The only part of it that he silenced was the retirement aspect.
That probably means he still very much wants out of Brooklyn. Though, he’s not willing to retire to make it happen. Which is fair.
And when the report did emerge that said he could retire, I’m not sure I bought it completely. Durant is just 33 years old and still playing at a very high level. He’s just at a crossroads at the moment and is looking for a way out. Clearly, retirement is not a realistic outcome.
