NBA Trade Rumors: Would the Brooklyn Nets be open to a Kevin Durant trade now?

The Brooklyn Nets have found themselves, once again, at a big of a crossroads. Kyrie Irving is currently suspended and there’s no guarantee that he’ll play another game for the Nets. The team as a whole has gotten off to a terrible start, and is 2-6 through the first eight games.

To punctuate that all, there are whispers that Kevin Durant and other members of the Nets are growing frustrated with Ben Simmons, who has individually gotten off to a slow start to the season and looks like a player that doesn’t have confidence or an identity.

To make matters even worse, there are now rumblings that teams are prepared to reengage the Nets in Durant trade discussions.

This doesn’t mean that the Nets will necessarily be open to discussions but it’s something that the Nets should probably think about and consider.

The Brooklyn Nets need to blow it up

With everything that has already transpired this season, you can make a case that the Nets would be better off by blowing it all up. And this may be the perfect time to do so. The team can’t really do much with Kyrie. His trade value is probably non-existent at the moment and he’s an expiring contract after this season.

Soon enough, Kyrie won’t be the Nets’ problem anymore.

If Brooklyn wanted, they could probably still find a taker for Ben Simmons. Even though he’s gotten off to a rough start, he’s still just 26 years old and can still be a valuable player in the right system. I’m just not sure the Nets were the right situation for him.

And then that leaves Durant, who the Nets refused to trading during the offseason even when he “requested” a trade away from the team.

The question is, have the Nets changed their stance on a possible Durant trade? The argument for not trading Durant during the offseason was based on the fact that the Nets had a championship-level roster and could compete for one this season.

That has not been the case this season and it’s hard to see that changing the rest of the season. Assuming that is the case and that the Nets can’t win a championship this season or with this core, would Brooklyn resign to the fact that it’s probably best to trade Durant?

This could end up being a busy trade season for the Nets. And if there is indeed an all-out pursuit for Durant, it could get make for a chaotic deadline.
