Trae Young has found himself once again at the center of trade rumors. This time, he had a somewhat surprising response to those rumors.

The Atlanta Hawks are quickly becoming a team heading into the offseason that could end up making some significant changes. And one player that many eyes around the league will be focused on is Trae Young, who finds himself at the center of trade rumors once again.

According to a recent report, the Hawks have the “green light” from ownership to trade anyone on the roster this offseason if they want. Because of the rumors that he found himself in at the NBA Trade Deadline, Young immediately becomes a player that could hit the trade block

Interestingly, Young’s recent response (subscription required) to the trade rumors was quite interesting. He was flippant and unmoved when prompted by the question. It’s not even the offseason yet so I don’t think we should completely break down the response, but he sounded like a player that was already over the topic.

Read into that as you will.

Would the Atlanta Hawks trade Trae Young this offseason?

No matter what happens the rest of the postseason, it’s fair to say that the Hawks will likely be undergoing at least some changes heading into the offseason. I can’t imagine that this team is going to simply run it back after this season.

The acquisition of Dejounte Murray has not played out as seamlessly as perhaps the Hawks would’ve liked and this is still a team that remains a good distance from contention in the East. I suppose the question that the Hawks need to ask themselves is whether or not they can build a team around Young that can win.

Adding Murray and Clint Capela was supposed to be part of that formula. So far, it hasn’t gotten the Hawks anywhere just yet. Atlanta is essentially in the same spot as they were last season and didn’t have any tangible improvement even with the addition of Murray.

Young is a really good player and parting ways with him would be somewhat of a step back for the team, but it could result in hitting a soft reset button with a brand-new chest of assets. Is that something the Hawks would want to do?
