OG Anunoby, Toronto Raptors
If the Toronto Raptors are going to retool their roster or even pivot toward a soft rebuild, we know that likely means OG Anunoby is going to be traded. And considering that he’s going to be entering the 2023-24 season as essentially an expiring contract, something is going to have to give. Either Anunoby is going to re-sign with the team on a long-term extension this offseason or he’s going to be traded. I doubt there’s any in-between right now for the two sides.
If he does end up being shopped this offseason, which was apparently and reportedly the case at this year’s NBA Trade Deadline, the Rockets should definitely be one of the teams that should be interested. Anunoby is one of the most underrated two-way star players in this league and he could certainly get the Rockets on the right track.
The big question is whether Anunoby should be considered a No. 1 in this league. Right now, he probably shouldn’t be. However, he hasn’t really had the chance to prove himself in that type of role in the NBA. Maybe he gets that chance with the Rockets with this deal.
