It’s easy to see why Dillon Brooks to the Miami Heat is a popular narrative. He makes sense on several levels. For one, the Heat is always looking for new reclamation projects. Brooks could be exactly that for the Heat next season. And it would only make more sense if he ends up signing a shorter-length deal.

Additionally, Brooks fits the exact Heat player outline. He’s tough, defensive-minded, and seems like a player that is still growing – at just 27 years old, he could have another level to his game. And the Heat, in the past, has done a great job of untapping potential. If Brooks believes he can be more than a 3-and-D contributor, the Heat may be the perfect spot for him to prove it.

If the Heat misses out on landing a big star in free agency, Brooks could emerge as a target for the team. He may not be a terrible backup play for the Heat who are expected to swing big this offseason. Even with the unexpected success that they’ve had in the playoffs this season, this is a team that still needs to retool the roster. Perhaps Brooks could be a part of that plan.
