Over the next few weeks the Indiana Pacers are going to have to decide if Roy Hibbert is a part of this team’s future. Is he the guy that they want to pair next to Paul George over the next handful of seasons?

If that answer is no, expect a trade. If that answer is yes though, expect any trade “rumors” for Hibbert to suddenly diminish.

Soon or later, one of those two options is going to be met. And if the last couple of months, during the NBA’s summer, was any indication, it looks like the former could be more of the viable option. At least right now.

The weird thing is that perhaps Roy Hibbert wants out more than the Pacers want him out. After the collapse of the season that Hibbert endured toward the latter parts of last season, including the playoffs, that could come off as surprising.

"[via John Zitzler of Basketball Insiders]There have been rumblings over the past six months that Roy Hibbert is ready to move on from the Pacers. There have also been rumors that the Pacers have been shopping around their towering center. At one point Hibbert appeared to an integral part Pacers’ future, but now his time with the team may soon be coming to an end. Hibbert has two years remaining on his current contract with the Pacers, with the second year being a player option. If the Pacers feel the chances of Hibbert exercising that player option are slim, they may look to move him this season."

After peaking in the month of December, after averaging 13.4 points and 7.6 rebounds per game, Roy Hibbert played worse in every consecutive month. He closed out the year by averaging 5.3 points and 3.2 rebounds per game in April.

In the playoffs, he bounced back a bit and averaged nine points and five rebounds per contest. Though, the damage was done, and it put an inconsistency asterisk on his season.

Perhaps it’s time for a change for both Hibbert and the Pacers. Although, it’s going to have to take a team’s interest in order for a move to take place.

And after the season that Roy Hibbert had a year ago, that may be easier said than done. By the NBA trade deadline though, expect Hibbert to no longer be in a Pacers uniform.
