  • The Rockets are a really good regular season team. Heck, they have the capability to be a great one. Their problem hasn’t been regular season success during their last two seasons, though. It’s been when they get to the postseason that offers a true challenge.

As we saw last season, Damian Lillard and LaMarcus Aldridge feasted off the Rockets’ lackluster defense in the first round of the playoffs and stunned the Rockets by handing them an early exit.

Even though the Rockets’ defense has improved this season, they’re fifth in the NBA in defensive rating this season compared to 12th last season, they seem to have trouble when it comes to playing teams with star power. The Rockets are 3-6 this season against the Warriors, Trail Blazers, Clippers and Grizzlies this season.

Houston is currently the fifth seed in the Western Conference and if they finish in that spot again this season, they’re going to have a hell of a time winning that series against any of the teams that are currently ahead of them in the standings right now.

It’s almost as if the Rockets match up terribly against everyone in the Western Conference. They’re a player away.
