Chicago Bulls

Is Otto Porter a big part of the future?

The Chicago Bulls are another team that was somewhat disappointing during the 2019-20 NBA season. They are littered with young talent all over their roster, led by Zach LaVine who is a borderline all-star candidate. The big problem with the Bulls right now, however, is that they have plenty of really good players but no one great player.

In the NBA, that’s a problem. Most of those teams happen to find themselves in NBA purgatory. If the Bulls don’t want the find themselves in that same spot, they have to make smart decisions when it comes to extending certain players on the team. The first test of making smart decisions come with Otto Porter Jr., who could hit the free-agent market this summer.

The Bulls need to decide whether or not he’s a key piece for the team moving forward, and whether he fits into their financial plans at the same time. Chicago is not going to be able to pay everyone; that’s just the nature of the business.

Porter might opt into the final year of his deal and give the Bulls another year to ponder it all over. However, the decision needs to be made soon.
