13. New Orleans Pelicans – Cole Anthony, G, North Carolina

Before the NBA’s restart, I would not have the New Orleans Pelicans selecting a playmaking point guard with the 13th pick in the 2020 NBA Draft. Nevertheless, here we are with the Pelicans on the clock and selecting Cole Anthony. While most of this has to do with the disappointing play of Lonzo Ball, the chance that the Pelicans could move Jrue Holiday and/or J.J. Redick also plays a factor too.

Anthony left much to be desired after his freshman season at North Carolina, but is a natural scorer and has the potential to be a really excellent point guard at the next level. Personally, Anthony gives me the vibes of a prospect that will be a better pro than a college player. If that is true, he could be really good.

There are risks when it comes to Anthony’s game and his ability to play a big role in the NBA. There are clear concerns. However, there’s also a chance that he could emerge as the best player from this draft. His potential is that high. I’m not sure that’s something the Pelicans should pass up, especially with their loaded young core. The Pelicans wouldn’t need Anthony to be great, he just needs to fit in.
